Abstract :
Research and development (R&D) — exploring a scientific concept in an organized, systematic way in order to gain new or additional knowledge; then applying this knowledge in a constructive way, i.e., creating a prototype or product design that produces visible change or creates a profitable product. An appealing description of your job goal? Then join the thousands of graduates who apply every year for positions in this area. It is a field that allows independence and the chance to use one´s creative abilities and intelligence to the fullest. However, the competition is tough, and the percentage of applicants hired can seem scary. According to Peterson´s Guide to Engineering, Science, and Computer Jobs 1982, in a random sampling, only 1 to 10 percent of the applications received by prospective employers resulted in offers.
