Abstract :
The development of new wet design MV power cables, up to 35 kV, using EPDM compound as insulation and longitudinal water tightness is discussed. The combination of the cable design and the type of insulation compound makes it possible to reduce the insulation thickness in such a way as to have an electrical stress at the conductor of 4 kV/mm, which is significantly greater than that used in MV distribution cables. The reliability of this design, the cable, and EPDM´s formulation was demonstrated in a wet location, without metallic water barriers. The mini-installation of model cables in servicelike conditions to estimate the ageing rate is presented and discussed
