Abstract :
The principle of a new type of GCB (gas circuit breaker) with magnetically assisted, self-gas flow, a magnet-assisted autopuffer, is presented. It is confirmed that an arc chamber using this principle is capable of high-current interruption by virtue of arc energy and of low-current interruption by virtue of magnetic arc drive. Design parameters of the arc chamber are studied using an extended simulation program. On the basis of the results, a new medium-voltage GCB rated at 24 kV, 25 kA has been developed
