Abstract :
A wide variety of basic insulation levels (BILs), configurations, shielding, footing resistances, protective schemes, equipment quality, and connections are now used on electric power distribution lines. Because of the many variables, only rough estimates of the lightning performance of these lines has been possible with the present state of the art. A method is presented that can be used to obtain such an estimate. This method should be sufficient for most comparative estimates
