Abstract :
In energizing power transmission lines, operators are often concerned with: the length of line to be energized; the adequacy of online generation; and the size of underlying load. There has been a need for a simple methodology to readily address these issues and provide guidelines for the safe operation of high voltage and extra-high voltage transmission lines. In this paper, a simple and approximate approach for evaluating sustained and transient voltages is presented. The sending- and receiving-end sustained and transient voltages are determined for energizing lines of different voltage levels and lengths, energized by different sizes of generators, and having different sizes of underlying loads
