Abstract :
This paper describes recent advances in broadband radio-frequency interference (RFI) reduction and anti-jam (AJ) signal processing. The primary area of investigation for this technology is in frequency-hopped (FH) communications, such as PRC-117, in close proximity to a counter-radio-frequency-improvised explosive-device (RFIED)-electronic warfare (CREW) emitter. A novel low-noise amplifier (LNA) construction combining conventional linear characteristics, nonlinear biased inverting limiter (BIL) characteristics, and a feedback control loop provides robust, inexpensive AJ to communications receivers. System modeling suggests dramatic communications improvement in tactical EW environments is feasible, and that intermodulation (IM) distortion products tend to be diversified by both the CREW and communications frequency hopping.
