Abstract
Er3+-doped single-polarisation optical fibres have been designed and fabricated. The fabricated single-polarisation optical fibres transmitted only the x-polarisation mode in the wavelength region around 1.535 mu m. The pump power wavelength was 1.48 mu m and the pump power was about 28 mW. The x-polarisation mode has been amplified with a net gain of 14 dB for a fibre length of 27 m.
