Abstract :
A modified configuration for a ring resonator, suitable for fabrication with semiconductor waveguides, is proposed and theoretically analysed. The design consists of a loop formed by two 3 dB directional couplers with cleaved end-facets. Assuming practically achievable parameters and fabrication tolerances, a finesse of 20 is predicted for a structure equivalent to a ring with a radius of 1.5 mm.
