Abstract
The time domain finite element method (TDFEM) is compared to the more standard frequency domain approach for calculating the electric field inside a multimode cavity loaded with a lossy dielectric. For high permittivity materials and where results at a range of frequencies are required the time domain method is found to be considerably more efficient
