Abstract :
The availability of the monolithic fused tapered coupler finally opens up the possibility of exploiting the a-posteriori bend for achieving practical wavelength-flattened devices, since the distortion can now be annealed into and maintained in the rigid structure of the taper waist. Couplers with conventional wavelength-flatness and a new type of coupler with a true wavelength-flatness have been readily fabricated with this new approach
