Abstract
A method for finite-element analysis of a rolling-rotor electrical machine was developed. The conventional moving-band technique for modeling motion was replaced by an element structure of radial bands in the air gap. This finite-element scheme allows a large distortion of the elements at the contact point of stator and rotor without suffering of problems in the convergence of numerical solution or the accuracy of results. The method of analysis was validated by comparing computed and measured results.
