Abstract :
The influence of accurate reproduction of inharmonicity on the perceived quality of piano tones is investigated. Acoustic piano tones were resynthesized by changing the bandwidth of correct positioning of partials. Cutoff frequencies of inharmonicity for different pitches have been established by psychoacoustic experimentation. The results are applicable to the design of dispersive resonators in sound synthesis by physical modeling
