Abstract :
The authors discuss the paper "A comprehensive Newton-Raphson UPFC model for the quadratic power flow solution of practical power networks" (see ibid., vol.15, no.1, p.102-9, 2000), arguing that the concept of determining the settings for the state variables of an UPFC by incorporation of a UPFC model into the Newton-Raphson power flow algorithm provides a welcome contribution to the application of FACTS devices in electric power systems. The original authors\´ responses to the discussion are also included.
