Abstract :
The electrochemical characteristics of the industrial nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery make it particularly appropriate for applications where environmental factors-particularly extremes of ambient temperature-need to be taken into account, and where lifetime, cycling behaviour, charge/discharge characteristics, maintenance requirements and life cycle cost are important parameters. This article examines the characteristics of two types of industrial Ni-Cd battery and highlights their suitability for battery energy storage systems.
