Abstract :
IEEE, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) are up in arms over a piece of legislation on antitrust and monopoly. Under Title I of S.825, national standards would be placed under the regulatory roof of the Federal Trade Commission while international standards, under Title II, would be controlled by the Department of Commerce. Title IV of the proposed legislation would establish an entity to duplicate or replace the function of ANSI.
