Abstract
The paper presents a Hybrid-computer simulation study of the damping effectiveness of static phase shifters. Control strategies based on tie line power and/or frequency deviations feedback, and utilizing fast acting static phase shifters to modulate tie line power flow are effective in damping power and frequency excursions. Implementing static phase shifters as a stability enhancement technique could improve dynamic stability and, hence, increase tie line power capacity.
