Abstract :
The following article was commissioned by Spectrum following the potentially momentous action of IEEE´s Board of Directors at its February meeting calling for, among other things, the abolishment of the industrial exemption. The purpose of this article is to provide IEEE members with some of the key facts regarding the status of registration today — uncolored by bias for or against the Board action. In The Institute´s October edition, page 3, arguments for and against abolishment of the industrial exemption are put forth by Professional Activities Vice President John Guarrera and Technical Activities Vice President Franklin Blecher. Together, these two articles are intended to shed some light on a complex subject that is too often addressed in emotional tones from an uninformed base — Ed.
