  • Abstract
    The new MPEG-4 based digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB) system offers multimedia information with an excellent audio- and video quality to the mobile society. The combination of MPEG-4 encoding and decoding with the DAB-standard (digital audio broadcasting) enables for the first time distortion free TV-reception in fast moving vehicles. New concepts and algorithms which are required for real-time MPEG-4 audio and video encoding were developed, implemented and verified by their integration into the DMB-system. To cope with the demanding real-time requirements of MPEG-4, the corresponding hardware architecture also has been completely re-designed
