Abstract :
We present a model that allows one to calculate magnetization curves for superconducting cylinders with an arbitrary aspect ratio. The model is based on magnetic energy minimization and can be applied to superconducting cylinders in any axially symmetric applied magnetic field. The dependence of current and field profiles and magnetization curves upon the sample aspect ratio is studied. Results are in agreement with the existing theories for the two limiting cases that can be calculated analytically: infinitely long cylinders and thin disks.
