Abstract :
Procedures to design a curved collector for a Q-band gyrotron traveling wave tube (gyro-TWT) are presented in this paper. The collector of the gyro-TWT is identified as a crucial part due to its high loading with the dissipated power of the spent electron beam. The power capacity of the conventional cylindrical collector is seriously limited due to its smaller dissipation area. To overcome this drawback, we proposed the curved collector, which can enhance the power handling capability so that it will be more suitable for high-power gyro-devices. An optimized curved collector for our Q-band gyro-TWT was designed using numerical calculations and Computer Simulation Technology (CST) Particle Studio. Results show the average dissipated power density of 0.162 kW/cm2 is 64% of that in the cylindrical collector.
