Abstract :
The paper investigates the use use of the A-ψ finite-element formulation for the modelling of two- and three-dimensional transient eddy-current problems. The method is initially verified against an analytic problem and compared with the standard A formulation. Various aspects of transient analysis are investigated; including different time-step procedures and the use of mass lumping to eliminate `physically unreasonable´ effects. Predictions from a three-dimensional simulation are shown to compare well with experimental results taken from the FELIX cylinder experiments
