Abstract :
The authors describe the main characteristics of the reliability databank implemented by Italtel and applied to telecommunications products. The databank requirements and features are presented, as well as the structure and input and output information. Emphasis is placed on describing the techniques adopted to correlate the component field failure data with the prediction data in order to update reliability prediction models. A cost-benefit analysis for the databank is presented. The approach features evaluation of the product quality and reliability level in the field by the FREDA (field reporting data) system and over 100000 scheduled failure reports per year
