Abstract :
The authors present an explicit-rate (ER) based congestion control scheme for multicast available bit rate (ABR) service in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) networks which support bandwidth allocation with a new fairness criterion, and analyse the stability of the network for both the unicast connections case and the unicast-plus-multicast connections case. Specifically, under the new fairness criterion, the allowed cell rate (ACR) for a connection is proportional to the difference between the peak cell rate (PCR) and the minimum cell rate (MCR) of the connection. The effectiveness of the proposed control scheme is confirmed by computer simulations
