Abstract :
A two-section semiconductor optical amplifier is proposed and investigated for use as a power equaliser, providing a 3 dB output saturation power of 8±1 dSm. Using the device to control the input power of a Mach-Zehnder wavelength converter, an increase in the input power dynamic range: of the converter from 2.5 to >20 dB is demonstrated at 10 Gbit/s
