Abstract :
A single-transverse-mode flared fibre amplifier is presented which uses a segmented structure that allows efficient and stable coupling of the input radiation into the large-area fundamental mode of the highly multimoded active fibre to be obtained. This novel amplifier design is compatible with singlemode master oscillators and can be employed for power scaling
