Abstract :
Friends and Colleagues, let me first assure you that I am not the one pushing 40. But the picture I have sent accompanying this piece should have clearly established this. Rather, recently, the IEEE History Center has advised me that in 2012 the IEEE Society on Social Implications of Technology (SSIT) will celebrate its 40th Anniversary (first as a Committee and then converting to a Society). Most of my message will deal with this event.
