Abstract :
The STATCOM type static reactive power compensator is a high-speed self-commutated voltage invertor (SCVI) with storage capacitor C in the DC-unit connected to the AC-network via three-phase self-inductor L. STATCOM´s functional chart is shown in Fig. 1, a [1]. It realizes the principle of the direct balancing. It is a compensator of a transverse type; it is connected in-parallel to the load which reactive power is to be compensated. This compensator can generate capacitive and inductive reactive power.
