Abstract
Deregulation is happening around the world and will continue to evolve globally over many more years. In its push to be the utility of the future, UtiliCorp changed its businesses to be able to operate successfully with or without deregulated markets. The utility of the future: ?? Is multinational ?? Can carry its expertise over into emerging parallel businesses ?? Has the flexibility and willingness to unbundle ?? Adapts readily to new structures and concepts ?? Goes beyond its traditional geographic borders to grow ?? Is an expert manager of risk. None of these concepts are totally new. But if you put them all together, you start to see that some of the utility of the future is already visible today.
