Abstract
Over the past decades, rapid technological advancements and changes in electrical consumption behaviors have drastically increased the demand on the power grid. In order to cope with future demand increases as well as to provide a more robust and efficient way of delivering and distributing electricity, developing smart grid has become an urgent global priority. Smart grid is a term referring to the next-generation power grid in which the electricity distribution and management are upgraded by incorporating advanced two-way communications and pervasive computing capabilities for improved control, efficiency, reliability, and safety. A communication infrastructure is an essential part of the success of the emerging smart grid. Furthermore, a scalable and pervasive communication infrastructure is crucial in both construction and operation of a smart grid.
