Abstract :
The characterisation and ultrasonic measurements of tapered silica acoustic buffer rods are presented. The acoustic velocity profiles across the rod diameter are measured using a 225 MHz line-focus-beam scanning acoustic microscope. Acoustic lenses have been fabricated at the ends of the rods. Ultrasonics measurements at frequencies of 30 MHz and signals with good signal to noise ratios are demonstrated.
