Abstract :
A new fibre tunable depolariser was developed which can be used with conventional laser diodes. Design criteria and principles are discussed. Experimentally, the degree of polarisation was tuned between 99.8 and 1.15%. The authors show how the depolariser can eliminate the effects of polarisation fluctuation in a polarisation-sensitive fibre system
