The IEE for the 21st Century

Following the emergence of modern democracies and the Industrial Revolution, the possession of knowledge, rather than skills, has become ever more important in modern society. The IEE, since its first roots in 1871, has a long history as a learned society in promoting the provision and expansion of knowledge. During this time, the IEE has responded to major changes in science, engineering, business and politics in ways that have enabled it to maintain its focus on the interests and learning requirements of its members and of the profession at large. The IEE is now once again engaged in setting up new structures that will meet the needs of the profession into the 21st Century. This article describes strategic developments that are now being progressed to sustain an internationally focused IEE that will support its members and stakeholders within the ´knowledge society´
