Abstract :
A Viterbi decoder using channel state information (CSI) is presented in a digital terrestrial television broadcasting system. The proposed Viterbi decoder uses the CSI derived from the pilots and the CSI is calculated by an interpolation method using the pilots in the receiver. We simulated this method in Rayleigh fading defined in an ETSI standard (ETI 300 744 (1997)). From the simulation, we obtained the results that this method has the better performance of about 0.15 dB to 0.7 dB and 2.2 dB to 2.9 dB in the Rayleigh channel than that of conventional soft decision Viterbi decoding with or without a bit interleaver where constellations are QPSK, 16-QAM and 64-QAM
