Abstract :
Radio interference voltage (RIV) caused by medium voltage (MV) (phase to phase voltage 20 kV) insulators and disconnectors was studied in the climate room at the high voltage laboratory of Tampere University of Technology. In addition antenna measurements were made near MV networks. With the exception of some faulted components, interference was mainly detected in disconnectors and pin insulators. The reduction of RIV of MV equipment was also studied and some useful results were obtained. Typical interference caused by MV disconnectors or pin insulators can disturb TV or radio broadcasts if the distance from the origin of discharges is below approximately 200 m
