Abstract :
Using the slope of the reflection spectrum of a laser´s stopband, the gain component can be directly read off an optical spectrum analyser. Gratings are tailored for high immunity to feedback through use of both strong index coupling and gain coupling. This method has been used to optimise both isolator-free distributed feedback lasers and electroabsorption modulator lasers
