Abstract
Creating a highly interactive graphical user interface for a complex information system is expensive. Many information systems can be modeled as hierarchical systems whose behaviors are well characterized by the System Entity Structure language. The authors introduce a model that is based on the common characteristics of hierarchical systems and discuss a user interface that is imposed onto it and that is generic across different hierarchical information systems. The user interface of the system depends not on the specific application domain but on the common behaviors described by System Entity Structure
