Abstract :
This paper presents a practical implementation on a field programmable gate array (FPGA) of a space vector modulator (SVM) for a three-phase voltage inverter. These schemes can be carried out using analog circuits or digital circuits, such as DSPs and microcontrollers. A more practical and faster solution is the use of FPGAs. The proposed method consists on the on-line calculation of alpha-beta vectors without trigonometric functions based on geometrical considerations. The switching pattern generation and sector identification made by the space vector modulation technique, delivers the control signals to the insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBT) based power inverter. This implementation is very flexible, has low-cost and also very compact. If the computational load increases the cost not increases. Simulation results are presented to validate the theoretical observations
