Abstract
Summary form only given. Summary only form given. To address concerns regarding the thermal stability of recorded data on thin film longitudinal recording media, a synthetic antiferromagnetic (SAF) media structure, consisting of two ferromagnetic thin films between which an 8-Å layer of Ru is sandwiched, has been proposed. The magnetic switching characteristics of the SAF structure are much more complicated than for conventional longitudinal media. It is important to understand these switching characteristics and to access the effects that these characteristics have on the recording performance of such media.
