Abstract
A typical MicroGrid consists of microsources, loads and some form energy storage unit. Ideally it is ´plug and play´ compatible i.e. it allows a microsource to be connected at any point without other changes to the system. This paper discusses part of the interface which could be used as a standard unit for such a MicroGrid. A photovoltaic (PV) panel and ultracapacitors are used as the microsource and energy storage unit respectively. This paper discusses the modelling of the photovoltaic panel, its limitations and methods to use improve the operating region. The selection of the topology and the design of the inner control loop for the dc-dc interface between the PV panel and the dc link are discussed. The detail of obtaining a model of the PV panel which is compatible with the control is discussed. Simulation results of the system are presented.
