Abstract
In this paper, the generalized scalar pulse-width modulation technique used in inverters is adapted to the matrix converters. Such generalization is possible by using the two-stage direct power converter topology. Two different strategies to control the input currents (space vector and scalar controls) and two different strategies to control the output voltages (space vector and scalar controls) of the direct power converter are presented. Then, an adaptation of the duty cycles using a new switching pattern based on scalar modulation is made for the matrix converters.
