  • Abstract
The authors present a novel algorithm for spatial interpolation of 2-to-1 interlaced television pictures. The basic problem that this algorithm addresses is reconstruction of a frame from one of the fields. The algorithm is based on two spatially varying image models. It can be applied to color as well as black-and-white pictures. Experimental results demonstrate that the resulting frames contain less spatial aliasing and are sharper than frames generated with commonly used approaches involving zero- or first-order interpolation
