Abstract :
The use of electric drives for propulsion on modern ships means that the correct operation of marine power systems (MPS), especially under fault conditions, is a severe challenge to MPS designers. Many alternative distribution architectures have been proposed, many of which incorporate grid connected power converters to provide an interface to energy storage, or other embedded equipment. The aim of this work is to demonstrate how intelligent use of these distributed power converters may aid with the identification and location of faults on the distribution bus.
