Abstract :
Summary form only given. The evolution with strain hardening of the magnetic properties of high purity polycrystalline nickel (99.98%) with various grain sizes ϕ/sub g/ is reported. The difference between loaded and unloaded states behaviour in the plastic regime can be correlated to the kinematic component X representative of long range interactions (internal stresses) in the material. Moreover, Barkhausen noise appears to be a powerful tool for nondestructive monitoring of the internal stress level in nickel.
