Abstract
Convergence is leading networks evolution. Current television-centric satellite networks must also support heterogeneous services. This paper focuses on IP/MPLS convergence in the ldquoULtra fast Internet Satellite Switchingrdquo project (ULISS). After describing ULISS architecture and IP/MPLS convergence needs, two propositions of convergence are described, the first is still DVB compatible while the other one is IP oriented. This work proposes several convergence enhancements such as the separation of different functional layers and planes as well as the unification of signaling. This would ease integration of new services and satellite evolution.
