Abstract :
The results of analysis of complex nonlinear dynamics of a helical electron beam in the system with a virtual cathode are presented. By means of Karhunen-Loève decomposition, the processes of appearance and propagation in the beam with the virtual cathode of the space-charge wave are analyzed. It has shown that dynamics of an electron beam with the virtual cathode is defined by spatio-temporal dynamics of Karhunen-Loève modes.
