Abstract
Summary form only given. Patterned media have been proposed as a way to drastically improve storage density in hard disks. For read/write head flyability, the media should be planar and the switching field distribution should be as narrow as possible. It is well known that, when defined by a nucleation barrier, coercivity (Hc) is not uniform in a set of nanostructures. We now present preliminary results on how to fabricate nanostructures with both planarity and high uniformity of Hc.
