Abstract :
The use of sigma-delta has inherent advantages over other techniques and lends itself well to VLSI integration. A sigma-delta modulator for analog/digital conversion featuring third-order noise shaping and a two-stage multirate digital decimation filter is discussed. Design goals included 16-bit resolution and 100-kHz output sample rate. Die area has been kept to a minimum using a 1.5-μm CMOS process, and only a single +5 V supply is needed. The converter approaches the predicted theoretical signal-to-noise ratio
