Abstract :
Summary form only given. The authors present cobalt ferrite (CoFe/sub 2/O/sub 4/) as a pinning layer for spin valves. This is the first use of an insulating ferrimagnet in spin valve pinning. A minor R-H loop of a typical cobalt ferrite pinned spin valve, taken in /spl plusmn/2 kOe, is shown. The structure is: 400 /spl Aring/ CoFe/sub 2/O/sub 4//30 /spl Aring/ Co/25 /spl Aring/ Cu/5 /spl Aring/ Co/40 /spl Aring/ NiFe/30 /spl Aring/ Ru. High /spl Delta/R/R (>12%) is observed as are high sheet resistance and pinning fields of 25.5 Ohm/square and 1500 Oe, respectively.
