Abstract :
Summary form only given. The disk vibration isoneof major faorsthat causetrack misregistration [1]. With thetrend of replacing conventional ball bearing spindle motor with fluid bearing spindle motor in hard disk drives, the vibration characteristics of the disks mounted on fluid bearing spindle motor also becomes an important issue. In this paper, the vibration characteristics of 3.5 inch disk and 2.5 inch disk mounted on ball bearing spindle and fluid bearing spindle were experimentally investigated and compared. The differences between these two types of spindle motors are presented and analyzed.
