Abstract :
Summary form only given. High silicon steel containing up to 6.5 wt.% Si is known as an excellent soft magnetic material, but it is difficult to process by a conventional thermomechanical (TM) route because of its extreme brittleness, which is usually associated to order/disorder phenomena. Recent research has shown that a properly adapted TM-route can be followed to produce steel sheet provided the ordering reaction can be avoided. Mossbauer spectroscopy has been used to determine the degree of ordering present at different levels of these TM-processing routes.
